EVELYN J. HASSEBROEK, age 92, of Lakefield, died Saturday, August 31, 2024, at the Sunset Hospice Cottage in Worthington. She was born March 5, 1932, in Rushmore, to Carl and Reka (Lingbeck) Tiesler. Evelyn was baptized on May 22, 1932 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Viola Township, IA. On August 25, 1946, she was confirmed at Emmanuel Lutheran Church.

Evelyn married Merle Hassebroek on January 25, 1950 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Viola Township, IA. After their marriage, the couple lived in Sibley, IA. They later moved to a farm northwest of Sibley, IA. In 1958, they moved to Lakefield. She worked as a cook at the St. Paul Lutheran School. She worked side by side with her husband in the fields, kept house, cooked meals and raised her children. They also ran an upholstery business.

She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Lakefield. She enjoyed going to dances, canning, riding motorcycle and wintering in Donna, TX. Evelyn was a bowling enthusiast. She even bowled a 300 game.

Evelyn is survived by her two children, Pam (Steve) Christoffer, Brewster; and Stan (Lori) Hassebroek, Inver Grove Heights; six grandchildren, Adam (Stacey) Christoffer, Abby (Dan) Fohrman, Ryan (Jessica) Hassebroek, Andy (Angela) Hassebroak, Maggie (Aaron) Wright and Alex Hassebroek; two step grandchildren, Shelia (Cliff) Black and Stephanie Bourn; nine great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Merle in 2000; two brothers, Elmer & Marvin Tiesler; and a sister, Mildred Ennen.

A time of fellowship will be from 11:30 am to 1 pm Saturday, Sept. 7 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Lakefield. Memorial service will be 1 pm Saturday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, in Lakefield, officiated by Pastor Jeff Sage. Burial will be in the Worthington Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Sunset Hospice Cottage in Worthington.
