Obituary

FANNIE J. DEKKER, age 85, of Worthington, died Friday January 5, 2007, at the Worthington Regional Hospital. She was born March 27, 1921, in Newkirk, IA, to Guy and Minnie (Harmelink) Van Zyl. She attended country school until eighth grade in Newkirk, IA. Fannie married Jake Dekker on February 26, 1946, in Matlock, IA. After their marriage, the couple farmed one year at Sheldon, IA and five years near Sanborn, IA. In 1952, they moved to a farm west of Fulda for thirty years. Fannie proudly earned her G.E.D. in 1970. For seventeen years she enjoyed her work as a flexible clerk in the United States Post Office in Fulda. She was also a faithful member of TOPS. In 1982, Jake and Fannie moved to their present home in Worthington. During her retirement years, she was a demo of food products in County Market and Wal-Mart. She was a member of the American Reformed Church of Worthington and actively involved in the RCW, Christian Fellowship Club, and assisted in other church functions. She was also a devoted volunteer at the Worthington Regional Hospital serving as a Pink Lady and a member of the Hospital Auxiliary. Fannie loved to travel and visit with everyone. However, her greatest joy was attending not only her children?s activities, but also those of her four grandchildren. She will be missed by all. Fannie is survived by her husband, Jake Dekker, Worthington; daughter and son-in-law, Melodies & Dean Balk, Cresco, IA; son and daughter-in-law, Jay & Lynn Dekker, Fulda; four grandchildren, Bret Balk, Sara, Daniel, & Kayla Dekker; brother, Herman Dekker, Montevideo; and other relatives & friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Ralph & Guy, Jr. Blessed Be Her Memory.
