Obituary

FANNY HISKEN, age 101, of Luverne, died Monday, January 25, 2010, at the Parkview Manor Nursing Home in Ellsworth. She was born June 23, 1908, in Aplington, IA, to William and Tillie (Mennen) Boelman. Fanny was baptized in a little country church near Wellsburg, IA. She moved to Rock Co. near Ash Creek in 1918. Fanny attended country schools near Ash Creek and she then worked in various homes. Fanny married Harm Hisken on January 28, 1931, in Ash Creek. The couple began farming near Ellsworth in 1934. In 1941, they began farming in Magnolia, before retiring and moving to Luverne in 1972. Harm died in September of 1993. In 2002, Fanny moved into the Centennial Apartments. She later became a resident of the Parkview Manor Nursing Home. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Luverne; Sunday School Teacher; Ladies Aid; Extension Club; and a very active 4-H Leader. Fanny began painting pictures in her later years. She enjoyed paper toll, sewing, gardening and a love for flowers. She was also a great cook. Fanny is survived by her two children, Bill (Judy) Hisken, Marshall; and Gert (Stanley) Wessels, Ellsworth; ten grandchildren; twenty five great grandchildren; brother, Ray (Adeline) Boelman, Ellsworth; three sisters-in-law, Jennie, Goldie & Enore Boelman, all of Luverne; and many nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harm; son, Dan, in 1995; sister, Tillie Hansen; brothers, Echo, George, Bill Eddie, Marvin & John Boelman; Also, brothers, Hank, & Jack Bruns; and also sisters, Marie Reemts, Minnie Huisman, Emma Henning, Ann Gross, Stella Winters & Katherine Osterkamp.
