FIRMIN CYPRIAN GOEBEL, age 88, of Worthington, died Friday, March 27, 2015 at the Osceola Community Hospital in Sibley, IA. He was born on September 26, 1926 to parents, John and Martha (Bernard) Goebel, in Granville, Iowa. He attended St. Joseph's School in Granville and helped on the family farm.
On January 17, 1950, Firmin was united in marriage to the love of his life, Rosanne Mary Fischer, in Hospers, IA. After their marriage, the couple moved west of Worthington and farmed. They fattened cattle and farrowed and finished hogs. Upon retirement, Firmin and Rosanne moved into Worthington. In September of 2014, Firmin moved into the Country View Manor in Sibley. Firmin and Rosanne were happily married for more than 65 years.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, ushering for years, and was also a member of the Knights of Columbus in Worthington. He enjoyed laughing and spending time with his family. Firmin also enjoyed fishing, playing cards, and bowling. In his younger years, he enjoyed participating in tractor pulls throughout the region. Firmin was a life-long Minnesota Twins and Vikings fan.
Firmin is survived by his wife, Rosanne Goebel, Worthington; seven children, Ronald (Emily) Goebel, Goodhue, MN; Daryl (Margaret) Goebel, Hastings, MN; Merlin (Sherri) Goebel, Hartford, SD; Randy (Joan) Goebel, Magnolia, MN; Dennis (Ann) Goebel, Delano, MN; Shirley (Dennis) Kurth, Spirit Lake, Iowa; Cindy Schaeffer, Savage, MN; sixteen grandchildren, Anita, Theresa, Ryan, Scott, Valerie, Sarah, Jared, Travis, Casie, Anthony, Chelsea, Carrie, Hanna, Brittany, Kyle, Anna and 15 great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Dylan, Jesse, Kelsey, Cloe, Hailey, Arayah, Logan, Ava, Riley, Levi, Carson, Zoey, Cade, Jase, two sisters, Arleen McDermott, Kingsley, IA; and Mary Murphy, Cherokee, IA; one brother, Gerald (Mary Ann) Goebel, Granville, IA; four brothers-in-law, Ray Loutsch, LeMars, IA, Harold (Ardell) Fischer, Fulda, Gerald (Yvonne) Fischer, Rock Valley, IA, Jerome (Rita) Fischer, Hospers, IA, and two sisters-in-law, Christine Sauer and Catherine Fischer both of Sheldon, IA.
He is preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Magnus, Odilo, Linus and Ivan Goebel, two sisters, Joan Loutsch and Vivian Homan, three sisters-in-law, Leona, Angeline and Mildred Goebel and five brothers-in-law, Pete Homan, Larry McDermott, Tom Murphy, John Fischer, and Donald Sauer.
