FLOYD EDWIN JOHNSON, age 86, of Magnolia, died Thursday, October 17, 2013, at the Sanford Luverne Medical Center. He was born April 4, 1927, in Douglas County, near Alexandria, to Martin and Olga (Lindbergh) Johnson. Floyd attended school in Holmes City, MN. He entered the United States Navy and served his country during WWII.
Floyd married Delores Hubred in 1949. After their marriage, the couple farmed near Kennsington. Floyd also worked as a caretaker at Lake Carlo's. They later moved to Naswak where Floyd worked in the Iron Range. In 1955, they moved to Kenneth where Floyd worked as a farmhand. He later worked at Firestone Retread, in Worthington, for over twenty six years. He also worked as a fry cook at the Magnolia Steak House for many years. Delores died in 1966.
Floyd married Joan Suedkamp Pick on November 23, 1968, in Sioux Falls, SD. The couple lived in Magnolia. In 1986, they opened Joan's Upholstery in Magnolia.
He was a former member of the Kenneth Lutheran Church; and a current member of St. Catherine Catholic Church in Luverne. He was a lifetime member of the Luverne VFW; the Cooties; the Hardwick American Legion; and the Luverne Eagles Club. He enjoyed being a member of the Static Brothers, singing along with Karaoke, fishing, camping & dancing.
Floyd is survived by his wife, Joan Johnson, Magnolia; son, Gary Johnson, Wells; two step children, Daniel Pick, Sauk Rapids; and Deborah (Gerald) Remme, Jackson; seven step grandchildren; seven step great grandchildren; and two sisters, Mae McClure, Jasper; and Yvonne (Roger) Gunderson, Hoffman.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Delores; daughter, LaRayne Johnson, in 2006; brother, Delmer Johnson; two brothers-in-law, Jim McClure & Bill Suedkamp; and a mother-in-law, Louise Suedkamp.
A time of fellowship will be from 2-4 pm Sunday, with family prayers at 3:30pm at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Luverne; and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. A Memorial Mass will be 11 am Monday at St. Catherine Catholic Church, in Luverne, officiated by Fr. Thomas Jennings & Fr. Andrew Beerman. Burial of cremains will be at the St. Adrian Cemetery at 1:30 pm Monday.
