FRANCES LUCILLE FISCHER, age 85, of Freeport, died Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at the CURA Nursing Home in Sauk Centre. She was born June 29, 1941, in Albany to Roman and Adeline (Christen) Tamm. She attended school in Albany.
Fran began working at The Dime Store, in Albany, where she was asked out for her first date by John Fischer. She married John on October 26, 1963, at the Seven Dolor’s Catholic Church in Albany. After their marriage, the couple began farming north of Freeport where they lived all of their married lives. Fran worked at the Albany Elementary School as a teachers aid for one year before she began working at Das Goldene Wohnheim Assisted Living in New Munich. She later served as the head cook at the Freeport Community Center, which pulled together her many skills including planning meals and organizing events. She retired in 2019.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport; the Christian Mothers and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. Fran enjoyed playing Bingo, crocheting beautiful doilies, and playing cards with friends, gardening, making her famous caramel rolls, growing flowers, dancing, and old time music. She loved socializing and telling stories.
Fran is survived by her husband, John Fischer, Freeport; five children, Mark (Chris) Fischer, Chanhassen; Monica (Dan) Dingmann, Adrian; Karla (Rich) Wolter, Sauk Rapids; Paul Fischer, Sauk Centre; and Anthony Fischer, Freeport; nine grandchildren, Callie (Caleb) Marxhause, Ethan Fischer, Joshua Fischer, Zach (friend, Alyssa Bovy) Dingmann, Jordan Dingmann, Madisyn (Blake) Stegenga, Skylar Dingmann, Phillip (Mariah) Wolter and Christopher Wolter; two great-grandchildren, Emryn & Saylor Stegenga; six siblings, Mary (Jim) Berning, Edmund (Diane) Tamm, Margaret (Jerry) Hirschfeld, Catherine (Alquin) Marthaler, Sharon Moeller and Colleen (Jim) Holien; son-in-law, Steve Becker; and many nieces & nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Jane Becker.
Visitation will be from 4-8 pm Monday, July 6 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport; and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Funeral Mass will be 11:00 am Tuesday at Sacred Heart Church, in Freeport, officiated by Fr. Daniel Walz. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery.
