FRED KERN, age 76, of Lismore, died Sunday July 20, 2014, at his home. He was born May 20, 1938, in Adrian, to Lawrence and Mary (Altman) Kern. He attended St. Anthony Catholic School.
Fred began farming with his father and brother Don at a young age. He eventually took over the family farm near Lismore and operated the farm for over sixty years.
He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Lismore; and the Knights of Columbus. Fred enjoyed bowling. He was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed watching the Minnesota Gophers, Twins & Vikings. Fred loved the many cats that made their home on his farm over the years. He always made sure they were well taken care of. Every day Fred would drive the farm area of southwest Minnesota. He could tell you who owned each parcel of land and how his crops and each farmers crops were growing.
Fred is survived by his sister-in-law, Carol Kern, Adrian; brother-in-law, Jim Pass, Minneapolis; eleven nieces & nephews, Vicky (Roger) Popham, Minneapolis; Doug (Barb) Pass, Chaska; Debby (Tom) Nelson, Bloomington; Brad (Kathy) Pass, Minneapolis; Mike Pass, Minneapolis; Dan (Selena) Pass, Minneapolis; Tim (Val) Pass, Chanhassen; Randy (Sue) Kern, Bloomington; Cheri (Jeff) Block, Rochester; Diane (Jim) Lutmer, Adrian; and Joan (Darrin) Pater, Adrian; twenty seven great nieces & nephews; and seven great great nieces & nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Betty Pass; brother, Donald Kern; and an infant sister, Phyllis Kern.
