Obituary

FRED (SAM) DRIESSEN, age 90, of Wilmont, died Saturday, March 10, 2007 at his home. He was born May 5, 1916 in rural Wilmont to parents Henry and Josephine (Schmitz) Driessen. After his schooling he helped with the family business. Fred was united in marriage to Verena Bremer on September 23, 1942 in Wilmont, MN. He then served his country in the United States Army and was stationed in California and Missouri and worked as a mechanic on airplanes. He received his honorable discharge on October 9, 1943. After returning home from the service he worked in the family hardware store and his own cattle and grain trucking business. In 1963, he purchased half interest in the gas station in Wilmont until 1981, when he sold his half interest but stayed on as a mechanic. In 1972, he started as a substitute mail carrier and then later became full time for a total of 19 years. He was also a fireman for the City of Wilmont, and was a city council member. He was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church and served on the church board. Fred is survived by his wife, Verena Driessen, Wilmont; children, Mary (Jerry) Kellen, Lismore; Vickie (Doug) Aaseng, Brandon, SD and Ruth (Tom) Kattke, Ramona, SD; eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
