GAIL JANET SMIENS, age 80, of Luverne, died Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at the Edgebrook Care Center in Edgerton. She was born September 21, 1935, in Luverne, to Herman and Erna (Christensen) Stuckenbroker. She graduated from Luverne High School in 1953.
Gail married Lowell Smiens on February 9, 1956, in Luverne. The couple lived in Luverne all of their married lives except for the four years they lived in Rapid City, SD. Gail worked at Orey's Café, in Luverne, before her retirement. She also volunteered at the Carnegie Culture Center, in Luverne, after her retirement.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Luverne. She enjoyed playing cards, especially pinochle, and a lively night at bingo. She also enjoyed doing puzzles, word finds and volunteering in the area.
Gail is survived by her three sons, Bryce Smiens, Luverne; Kevin Smiens, Mankato; and Timothy Smiens, Mankato; several nieces & nephews, including Tanya (Leicher) Light, Luverne.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lowell Smiens; infant son, Allen; son, Scott; and three sisters, Myrtle Leicher, Dorothy Krogmann & Lois Hanson.
A time of fellowship will be from 10 to 10:30 am Monday, July 11, at the First Presbyterian Church in Luverne. A memorial service will be at 10:30 am at the First Presbyterian Church, in Luverne, officiated by Pastor Jason Cunningham. Burial of cremains will be in the Maplewood Cemetery in Luverne.
