GALE  K.  REMME, age 80, of Luverne, died Monday, June 16, 2014, at his home. He was born December 7, 1933, in Clear Lake, SD, to Gust and Martha (Bendt) Remme. He graduated from Luverne High School in 1951.
He enlisted in the Minnesota Army National Guard in December 1949 and was honorably discharged in May 1951.   He  enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served his country in the "Seabees" from 1952 to 1953 in the Philippines.  In 1956 he was honorably discharged from active duty and moved back to Luverne.
Gale married Pieternella "Nellie" Lolkus on August 30, 1957, in Edgerton. After their marriage, the couple lived in Luverne for a short time before moving to Windom.  They moved back to Luverne in 1960.  Gale worked in construction for a short time, until he started his career with Northwestern Bell "Ma Bell" Telephone Company.  He worked for this company from 1957 to 1994 as a Cable Maintenance Splicer.
He was a lifelong member of the Luverne VFW and American Legion,  where he served as Post Commander.  He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Boy Scout Leader.  He enjoyed woodworking, coffee with his friends at Glen's, watching Minnesota Vikings, spending time with his family and his dog "Half Pint" .
Gale is survived by his son, Bradley Remme, Sioux Falls; daughter, Patricia Audette, Maple Grove; granddaughter,  Kimberly Kovach, Washington, DC; two brothers, Donald Remme, West DeMoines, IA; Wayne (Verna) Remme, Armour, SD; sister, Yvonne (Donald) Erstad, Alexandria, MN; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Nellie; son, Gregory Kim; sister, Marlene Schwartz; and a brother Leon.
Visitation will be Sunday from 4-7 pm at the Dingman Funeral Home in Luverne; and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Funeral will be 10:30 am Monday at Grace Lutheran Church, in Luverne, officiated by Rev. Ron Nichols. Burial with full military honors provided by the Luverne American Legion & VFW, will be in the Maplewood Cemetery in Luverne.
