John) Roos, Sr.
June 7, 1914 – November 24, 2006
Garret John Roos, better known as Gary Sr., was born to William and Elizabeth Roos on June 7th, 1914 in Hartley, IA. He met LuElla Kluever, fell in love, and the two were married on September 6th, 1938 in Yankton, S.D.. Gary and Ella resided in Worthington, where he worked side by side with his father in construction. In 1940, after the United States became involved in WWII, Gary and Ella moved to San Antonio, TX where he supervised defense contracting. From Texas, he transferred to Hanford, WA, where he supervised the construction of bomb shelters. Well known and very respected, Gary was a life long residential and commercial contractor in the Worthington area. The landscape and architecture of Worthington hold many homes and buildings that were designed, drafted and built with his expertise. To their union were born five beautiful children. Son, Roman (Peggy) Roos, Victoria, MN, and their children Kelli (Paul) Martens, Heidi Roos Somerville and the late Jason Roos. Son, Gary Jr. (Joan) Roos, Worthington and their children, Brian (Sharon) Roos, Pam (Troy) McManus, and Eric (Cathy Jo) Roos.Daughter, Elizabeth, ?Tootie? Tofteland, Rapid City, SD, her children, Jodi (Denny) Leibel and JD Tofteland. Daughter, Yvette Roos, (friend, Mike) Bellingham, WA.Daughter, Tammy (Lynn) Brunk, Worthington, and their children, Jamie (Matthew) Phillips and Mike Brunk Gary is also survived by ten great-grandchildren. Also surviving Gary are sisters, Margaret Wiggins, Lorretta Storey, Catherine Cooper and brother, Tony Roos. Gary was proceeded in death by his parents, step-mother, his wife, LuElla, brothers: William, Albert, Elmer, Louis and Joe, along with two sisters: Elsie Brambel and Mary Garlick. He was also proceeded in death by one grandson, Jason. Gary has touched the lives of many people in different ways. He will always be remembered for high work ethic, his kind heart, his giving spirit, and his ?tell it like it is? personality. Gary had great love for his family and all that were dear to him. His pride can be seen as you drive through the streets of Worthington. Often as we think of Gary, we think of his motto, ?Go WithThe Best?, and he did. Blessed Be His Memory.
