GARY MARVIN LONNEMAN, age 59, of rural Wilmont, died Saturday, December 28, 2013, from Parkinson's disease, at the Adrian Care Center. He was born December 11, 1954 in Worthington to Marv and Ev (Hendel) Lonneman. Gary was baptized and confirmed at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Wilmont. He attended OLGC Elementary School before graduating from Adrian High School in 1972. Gary then attended Worthington Community College and later graduated from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor's degree in Animal Science in 1976. He taught Vet's Ag from 1976-1980, after which he taught Production Ag at Minnesota West, Worthington, from 1980 to 1991.
Gary married Lynette Fawcett on June 28, 1980 in Marshall. A few years after their marriage, the couple moved to live and farm at Gary's home place near Wilmont.
He served on the Wilmont-Adrian Cooperative Board for ten years, five as Board President. Further, he served as President of the Rushmore Cattle Co., a member of the Cenex board, a Reading First Responder, and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Worthington. Gary was so committed to his farming community that he spoke at the State Legislature and was even featured in Time Magazine in 1999 during the hog price crisis.
Gary enjoyed playing softball, collecting sports cards and memorabilia, skiing, canoeing on annual camping trips, selling sweet corn, watching football, and doing puzzles.
Gary is survived by his wife, Lynette Lonneman, rural Wilmont; three children, Katie (Justin) Lupkes, South St. Paul; Kim Lonneman (fiancé James Evans) Las Vegas, NV; Rick Lonneman, Minneapolis; father, Marv Lonneman, Worthington; two sisters, Cheryl (Brad) Anderson, Andover; and Jan (Jim) Kleinsasser, Las Vegas, NV; and two brothers, Glen (Cindy) Lonneman, Worthington; and Greg Lonneman, Blaine.
A visitation will be from 1-3 pm Tuesday at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Worthington. A time of remembrance will be at 3 pm Tuesday at the funeral home in Worthington. A private family committal service will be at a later date.
