GENEVIEVE McCLURE, age 87, of Luverne, died Wednesday, May 13, 2015, at the Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD. She was born July 26, 1927, south of Adrian, rural Nobles County, to Henry and Tillie (Van Essen) Smook. She graduated from Luverne High School in 1946.
Gen married John "Buster" McClure on January 25, 1947, in Luverne. After their marriage, the couple farmed northeast of Luverne. They moved into Luverne in 1991. Gen was a homemaker. She also worked at the Mary Jane Brown Good Samaritan Home for over ten years. Later, she worked at the Heritage House and as a sales person at the Luverne Style Shop.
She was an active member Grace Lutheran Church in Luverne; and the GLCW where she had been in charge of the kitchen and rummage sales. She enjoyed embroidery, cross stitching and spending time with her family.
Gen is survived by her four sons, Rodney (Donna) McClure, Sioux Falls, SD; David (Martha) McClure, Colorado Springs, CO; Bruce (Jodie) McClure, Keystone, SD; and Greg McClure, Luverne; eight grandchildren, Ben (friend, Nancy) McClure, Holly (friend, Matt) McClure, Jason (Caryn) McClure, Brandon McClure, Joy (Brian) Mueller, Jacob (Amber) McClure, Angie (Jason) Clark, and Sara (friend, Brad) McClure; and six great grandchildren, Payton, Chloe, Bailee, Devon, Izabella and Tessa Jo.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John, on November 1, 1995; an infant grandson, John Delbert McClure; three brothers, Harm, Herman & Harold Smook; and four sisters, Mathilda Bowen, Anna Hageman, Henrietta Ferguson and Edna Tripp.
Visitation will be from 5-8 pm Friday at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Luverne; and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Funeral will be 10 am Saturday at Grace Lutheran Church, in Luverne, officiated by Pastor Joshua Enderson. Burial will be in the Maplewood Cemetery in Luverne.
