Obituary

GEORGE BERNING, age 86, of Luverne, died Tuesday, August 24, 2010, at the Mary Jane Brown Home in Luverne. He was born November 29, 1923, in rural Lismore, Nobles County, to Henry and Louise (Farwick) Berning. He attended country school in rural Lismore. George married Doris Garrett on April 21, 1950, at the Parsonage at St. Anthony Catholic Church. After their marriage, the couple farmed southwest of Lismore. In 1963, they moved to the farm northeast of Adrian. They began farming southeast of Lismore in 1967. In 1984, they retired and moved to Luverne. He was a member of St. Catherine Catholic Church in Luverne. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, pitching horseshoes & billiards. George is survived by his wife, Doris Berning, Luverne; three brothers, Alvin (Gert) Berning, Adrian; Ed (Dolores) Berning, Adrian; and Jim (Rita) Berning, Owatonna; and a sister, Marie Smeins, Luverne. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Arlene Housmann, in 1984; a brother, Raphael Berning; a sister, Lorraine VanPeursem; and two brothers-in-law, Myron Smeins & Ralph VanPeursem.
