GERALD VORDERBRUGGEN, age 59, of Luverne, died Saturday, November 19, 2011, at the Sanford Hospice Cottage in Luverne. He was born December 15, 1951, in Wadena, MN, to Harold and Phyllis (Andrie) Vorderbruggen.
Gerry graduated from Wadena High School in 1970. He joined the United States Army in 1971 where he served in an artillery unit in Germany. He completed the Law Enforcement Course in Alexandria and moved to Luverne.
Gerry was united in marriage to Bonnie Niehus on October 2, 1982, in Bluffton, MN. After their marriage, they made their home in Luverne. Gerry worked for the City of Luverne as a police officer from 1977 to 1997; and for Rock County as a deputy sheriff from1997 to 2009, when he retired.
He was a member of St. Catherine Catholic Church in Luverne. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching the Minnesota Twins and Vikings. He also enjoyed yard work and a well groomed lawn; he especially enjoyed his time shared with his family.
Gerry is survived by his wife, Bonnie; daughter and her fiancée, Sara (Thomas Janssen) Vorderbruggen; three brothers, Mark (Judi) Vorderbruggen, Ft. Lauderdale, FL; David (Beckie) Vorderbruggen, Wadena, MN; Michael Vorderbruggen, Elk River, MN; three sisters, Jean (Vern) Kemper, Wadena, MN; Karen (Gregg) Hagen, Wahpeton, ND; Mary Jo (Byron) Hill, Cloquet, MN; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
