GERALD "JERRY" V. WETHOR, age 79, of Luverne, died Monday, October 13, 2014, at the Dow Rummel Village in Sioux Falls, SD. He was born March 10, 1935, in Emery, SD, to Charles and Helen (Hoffman) Wethor. He graduated from Emery High School. Jerry entered the United States Army on September 7, 1954. He served his country until being honorably discharged on August 23, 1956. He then attended college and graduated from Southern State Teachers College, in Springfield, in 1959. He taught school & coached for one year; and later attended the University of Wisconsin School of Banking in Madison, WI.
Jerry married Marilyn Spielmann on August 24, 1960, in Colman, SD. They moved to Luverne in 1976. Jerry worked as a banker in Sioux Falls, Brookings, Madison, SD and Mandan, ND, before becoming President of Minnwest Bank, in Luverne, in 1976. Marilyn died on February 12, 1993.
Jerry married Jeannie Everett on February 17, 1995, at St. Catherine Catholic Church. The couple lived in Luverne. Jerry retired in 1998 and the couple began wintering in Arizona.
He was an active member of St. Catherine Catholic Church where he had served as an Usher, Eucharistic Minister, Lector & Parish Council. Jerry was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Luverne Rotary & the Luverne Chamber. He enjoyed golfing, reading about the American Presidents, walking, music, playing cards and supporting the Luverne Cardinal High School sports.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Jeannie Wethor, Luverne; five children, Timothy Wethor, Burnsville; Stephen (Katie) Wethor, Scottsdale, AZ; Kathleen (Brian) Bluhm, Sartell; Robert Wethor, Worthington; and Susan (Andrew) Wineland, Plymouth; five grandchildren, Alexandra & Theodore Wethor, Stephanie Bluhm and Samantha & Sydney Wineland; two step sons, Mark (Dawn) Koenig, Sioux Falls, SD; and David Koenig, Sioux Falls, SD; four step grandchildren, Allison & Amanda Koenig, Chris (Mandy) Koenig, and Nikki (Tyler) Sullivan; three step great grandchildren, Ryder, Gracie & Lyric; and a sister-in-law, MaryAnn Wethor, Mitchell, SD.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Marilyn; four brothers, Francis, James, Robert & Charles Wethor; and three sisters, Lenora Krier, Bernadette Hillard and Cecelia Loes.
Visitation will be from 5-8 Wednesday at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Luverne, with parish prayers at 7pm. Visitation also from 10 to 11 am Thursday at the church. Funeral Mass will be 11 am Thursday at St. Catherine Catholic Church, in Luverne, officiated by Fr. Andrew Beerman. Burial with full military honors provided by the Luverne American Legion & VFW will be at the St. Catherine Cemetery in Luverne.
