Obituary

GEROLD HOFTYZER, age 83, of Worthington, died Saturday, December 16, 2006 at Sunset Cottage in Worthington. He was born March 12, 1923 in rural Rushmore to parents John and Hendrika (Kleinwolterink) Hoftyzer. He attended various schools in Iowa. After his schooling, he stayed and farmed with his family. Gerold was united in marriage to Inez Bonnes on April 8, 1943 in Yuma, Arizona. He served his nation during World War II from 1944 until 1946. After his honorable discharge from the service, they farmed near Ocheyedan, IA until 1972. They moved to a farm north of Rushmore and farmed until 1985 and retired and moved to Worthington. He was a past member of the Ocheyedan Christian Reformed Church and presently a member of the Worthington Christian Reformed Church and served as an elder and a deacon. He was also a board member of the Ocheyedan Christian School for two terms. Gerold was also a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed woodworking, bowling and being with his family and grandchildren. Gerold is survived by his wife, Inez Hoftyzer, Worthington; children, Howard (Ricki) Hoftyzer, Rushmore; Irene (Hank) Eggink, Littleton, Colorado and Colleen (Ivan) Van Berkum, Sioux Center, IA; a daughter-in-law, Audrey Hoftyzer, Boyden, IA; six grandchildren, Kayla Rosenboom, Craig Hoftyzer, Ryan Hoftyzer, Mark Hoftyzer, Jonathan Van Berkum and David Van Berkum; five great grandchildren; a brother Harold (Florence) Hoftyzer, Hartley, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sons, John Allen Hoftyzer and Jerry Lee Hoftyzer, 4 brothers, 3 sisters and one grandson Jesse Van Berkum. Blessed Be His Memory.
