GERRIT JACOBSMA, age 74, of Luverne, died Saturday, April 5, 2008, at the South Ridge Care Center, in Sioux Falls, SD. He was born May 14, 1933, in rural Rock Valley, Sioux County, IA, to Bert and Hattie (Van Maanen) Jacobsma. He attended Rock Valley Christian School. Gerrit married Mary J. Van Holland on March 13, 1953, at Mary?s parents home in rural Rock Valley, IA. After their marriage, the couple farmed in the Iowa, South Dakota & Minnesota areas. In the mid 1970?s, the family moved to the acreage near Edgerton. In 1989, they moved to the acreage south of Luverne. It was at this time Gerrit worked at Kenny?s Grocery, in Luverne. He was a member of the American Reformed Church, in Luverne. Gerrit enjoyed traveling with his wife, attending auction sales where he would buy & repair articles for resale. He was meticulous in his work. He enjoyed spending time with his children and especially his grandchildren. Gerrit is survived by his wife, Mary J. Jacobsma, Luverne; three children and their spouses, Roger & Cheryl Jacobsma, Hospers, IA; Carol & Gordon Tinklenberg, Lincoln, NE; and Linda & Ray Koens, Brandon, SD; five grandchildren, Heather Jacobsma, Daniel (Julie) Jacobsma, Michael Jacobsma, Jami Koens & Arianna Tinklenberg; four brothers, Pete (Elsie) Jacobsma, Rock Valley, IA; Robert (Carol) Jacobsma, Jenison, MI; Bernard (Kathleen) Jacobsma, Luverne; and Harold (Glenda) Jacobsma, Luverne; and a sister, Lucy (Ken) Bolkema, Leota. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Jennie Groen, Katie Postma & Coba Bliek; and a brother-in-law, Cornie Vander Vliet.
