GLADYS G. ELSING was born June 25, 1914 at Hospers, IA to Ed and Dora Vander Aarde Boone. The family moved to Minnesota in 1925. Gladys attended school in rural Rushmore. On June 22, 1934, she and Henry Elsing were married at Sibley, IA. Following their marriage they lived on a farm south of Wilmont and raised 5 children. In 1958 they left the farm and moved to Adrian. After retiring from the farm Gladys and Henry made several trips traveling in their motor home. This travel included a 6 week trip up the Alcon highway to Alaska. Henry died on January 11, 1973. Gladys was known for the rugs she made on the loom. Gladys worked as a cook for 12 years at Arnold Memorial Nursing Home. She was a life long member of Eastfriesland Church in Rushmore where she belonged to Dorcas and bible study group. Gladys was an active member of the Rushmore Senior Center where she helped make quilts. For many years she was a volunteer RSVP driver. She enjoyed playing cards, quilting and flowers. In 2009 she moved to the Meadows in Worthington. Survivors include five children and their spouses: Eugene and Marge of Kelsyville, CA; Milford and Delores of Sioux Falls, SD; Kenneth and Kathy of Adrian, MN; Donna and Eldon Lober of Tracy, MN; Barbara and Jerry Fischer of Willemina, OR; 17 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by 2 sisters-in-law, Mary Elsing of Worthington and Ethel Boots of Rushmore. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Henry, two sisters, Fern Morrison and Matilda Klienhesselink. Also, three adult grandsons, Douglas Elsing, Bruce Elsing and Mark Lober; infant grandchildren, Roger Elsing and Candice Elsing; step-father, Dick Boots; step-brother, Ray Boots and step-sister, Ruby Raley.
