Grace Johanna Braasch, age 92, of Luverne, died peacefully with her children at her side Monday, August 17, 2015, at the Mary Jane Brown Good Samaritan Home in Luverne. She was born to John and Johanna Beyer at Boyden, Iowa, on Dec. 14, 1922, the youngest of 6 children. After attending a country school in that vicinity, she worked at the dime store in Sheldon, Iowa for some years. The highlight of her childhood and youth was the yearly 4-day Bible convention held on the family farm and she loved to tell about helping to prepare for those special days. It was at one of those conventions that she met Wallace Braasch, who on Nov. 4, 1948 became her beloved husband; together they enjoyed farming the Braasch homestead at Ryder, ND, where three daughters were born to them. After Wallace passed away in 2003, Grace continued to live on the family farm until failing health made a move necessary. In January 2009 she moved to the Sunrise Assisted Living Center in Jasper, MN. After major surgery in 2013, she spent several months in a rehab center in Sioux Falls, SD, until moving in January 2014 to the Good Samaritan care center in Luverne.
In her younger years, Grace loved to sew, making many dresses for her daughters. The afghans she crocheted are treasured keepsakes for her children and grandchildren. During her retirement years, she and her husband enjoyed spending winters at their home in Texas. In later years, her "Word-Find" books were her favorite pastime. But what she loved most of all was going to the Bible meetings to hear God's word. Over the past couple of years, she often expressed that she longed to go to her Heavenly Home.
Grace was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, brothers, Garrett, Herman and Raymond, and sisters Evelyn Doorenbos and Minnie Beyer, and son-in-law, Leonard Harris. Left to remember her with deepest love and gratitude are her 3 daughters: Betty (a servant of God in Bolivia); Edith (Donald) Bauman, of Ryder, ND; and Bonita (Loren) Veldkamp, of Jasper, MN; five grandchildren: Stephanie (Rocklyn) Lien of Clayton, NC; Lyle (Donna) Harris, of Elk Grove, CA; Cynthia (Travis) Bergh of Havana, ND; Francis Veldkamp and Jolyn Veldkamp both of Jasper, MN; and seven great-grandchildren: Grace and Emily Lien, Cheyenne and Willow Harris, and Payton, Hudson, and Addison Bergh.
Visitation will be from 5 to 6:30 pm Wednesday at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Luverne; and also one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Thursday. Funeral will be Thursday at 11 am at the Dingmann Funeral Home, in Luverne, officiated by David Bergh & Shay Neumann. Burial will be on Saturday in Minot, ND.
