GREGORY RUDOLPH LUETTEL, age 92, of Adrian, died Thursday, January 21, 2009, at the Parkview Manor Nursing Home in Ellsworth. He was born July 2, 1917, in Elgin, NE, to Ben and Mary (Hofer) Luettel. He attended school in Raeville, NE and St. John?s Academy, Petersburg, NE.? ?As a teenager and then as a young adult, Greg enjoyed trapping for furs and most of all playing his guitar and harmonica for house parties and barn dances. Also, he worked on the construction of roads, chipping ice or snow off the roads in the wintertime. He helped build the road by Petersburg, NE. In July of 1935, at the age of eighteen, Greg traveled to Minnesota looking for jobs because there wasn?t work in Nebraska. He arrived in Adrian and began working as a hired man for various farmers in the area. ?Until Greg was twenty one, his earnings were sent back to his parents to help the family.? In 1941, Greg took time to attend the Lincoln Aeronautical Institute in Lincoln, NE for the Aircraft Sheet Course.? He still had the love for farming so he returned to Minnesota to pursue his dream. ?? Greg married Wilhelmina ?Phil? Suedkamp on February 22, 1943, at St. Adrian Catholic Church. After their marriage, the couple farmed in rural Adrian.? Greg retired in 1981 but continued helping his children with farm chores. He became a resident of the Parkview Manor Nursing Home, Ellsworth, in October of 2003. ?? He was a member of St. Adrian Catholic Church; the St. Joseph Society; and the Ellsworth Senior Citizens. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, playing cards, riding his ATV and especially spending time with his grandchildren. ?? Greg is survived by his daughter, Nancy (Bill) Einck, Chandler; two sons, Ron (Deb) Luettel, Adrian; Mark (Pam) Luettel, Adrian; daughter-in-law, Ruth Luettel, Adrian; fifteen grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; six brothers, Lawrence (Florence) Luettel, Albion, NE; LaVern Luettel, Albion, NE; Florian (Clarice) Luettel, Albion, NE; Flavian (Pat) Luettel, Albion, NE; Alvin Luettel, Petersburg, NE; and Bernard Luettel, Omaha, NE; two sisters, Stella Stokes, Petersburg, NE; and Mary (Henry) Starman, Albion, NE; and two sisters-in-law, Frances Luettel, Petersburg, NE; and Marge (Vince) Wieneke, Lismore. ?? He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Phil, on May 6, 1994; two sons, Dave, in October of 1994; and Jim, in October of 2001; an infant, daughter, Rita; brother, Clem Luettel; and two sisters, Emma (Koch) Velder; and Marcella Stokes.
