IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Harlan
Overbeek
September 26, 1940 – August 17, 2010
Harlan John Overbeek was born to Jake and Katharyn (Lolkus) Overbeek on September 26, 1940. He was the first of four children. Harlan spent his entire life in the Leota area. He graduated in 1958 from Southwest Christian High School, and married Nadine Beckering on June 13, 1963. The couple had two children. Harlan served in the Air National Guard for six years, ran a road grading and snow removal business, and spent several years in the construction industry. In 1980 he began an oil painting enterprise ? in the same style as his father ? which he continued professionally until he retired. On the morning of August 17, 2010, Harlan was reunited in heaven with his parents, grandparents, and a son-in-law, John Posey. He is survived by his wife Nadine and three siblings: Virginia Wassink and her husband Lloyd, Dwight Overbeek and his wife Susan, and Darlene Thompson and her husband Phil. His legacy includes his children: Ron Overbeek and his wife Penny of Rogers, Minnesota; and Kimberly Overbeek and her husband Ben Hemmens of Falls Church, Virginia. Harlan leaves behind many works of art, but his favorite pieces were undoubtedly his three grandchildren ? Will, Sofi, and John ? who will continue to miss him long after they figure out how Grampa was able to remove his teeth like that. Harlan was a member of Bethel Reformed Church in Leota, and rejoices today with his Redeemer, free from pain, his body whole and strong.
