Obituary

HAROLD ?SHORTY? L. JOHNSON, age 94, of Luverne, died Friday December 31, 2010, at the Mary Jane Brown Good Samaritan Center in Luverne. He was born October 17, 1916, in Centerville, SD, to Andrew and Mable (Skonhovd) Johnson. Harold attended school in rural Parker, SD. He farmed with his brother Bob in rural Parker when he was a young man. Harold was united in marriage to Eleanore Christine Christensen on December 31, 1941, in Askov, MN. After their marriage they farmed in South Dakota and Minnesota. In 1954 they moved to Luverne and he continued to work for farmers in Minnesota and South Dakota. He also worked for Hanson Silo in the summers and A.R. Woods in the winters. In 1959 he started working for the Luverne school district as a custodian and a bus driver. He retired in 1981. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, in Luverne. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, trapping and spending time with his family. Harold is survived by his wife Eleanore Johnson, Luverne; three sons, Arthur Johnson, Luverne; Dennis Johnson, Gulf Port, MS; and Donald (Nancy) Johnson, Valley Springs, SD; two daughters, Marilyn (Earl) Madison, Adrian; and Darlene Nagel, Adrian; nineteen grandchildren; five step grandchildren; thirty four great grandchildren; thirteen step great grandchildren; two brothers, Wilbur Johnson, Sioux Falls, SD; and Selmer Johnson, Sioux Falls, SD; and a sister, Kathryn (Roger) Larson, Rapid City, SD. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, David, in 1943; and Merlyn in 2003; and two brothers, Clifford & Robert Johnson Visitation will be from 4 to 8pm Friday at the Dingmann Funeral Home, Luverne, and from 1to 2pm Saturday at Grace Lutheran Church in Luverne. The service will be 2pm Saturday at Grace Lutheran Church, with Rev. David Sorensen officiating. Burial will be at a later date at the Holland Cemetery in Centerville, SD.
