HARRY W. RUSSELL, age 92, of Bigelow, died Thursday, June 11, 2009. He was born on February 1, 1917 in Baker, Montana, to parents, Monroe and Margaret Russell. He spent the first six years of his life living on a homestead near Baker, MT. The family then moved to Bruce, SD, where he first attended country school. In 1929, the family then moved to the Russell farm on Highway 59 near Bigelow, MN. Harry graduated from Bigelow High School in 1935, where he was a member of the basketball team. He farmed with his father and attended winter classes at Iowa State University for several years. Harry married Evelyn Buntjer on December 26, 1943, at his parents? farm. Harry and Evelyn farmed the home place until 1976, when they moved to their nearby farm on which they retired. As a person, Harry was always interested in helping others and served in many different capacities including being a Bigelow Community Church Board member and serving as a Nobles County Commissioner. He also served as a member of the board for Nobles County Soil and Water Conservation, the Bigelow Farmers Elevator, and Little Rock Fire Insurance. Harry and Evelyn were founding members of the Circle C, which met monthly for over 50 years. Harry enjoyed reading, especially about the history of the Old West, playing pinochle, and taking care of his horses. Thankful for having shared his life are: his wife, Evelyn; and children, Ruth Aden and her husband Rod of Bigelow, Jim Russell and his wife Cindy of Bigelow, Donn Russell and his wife Vickie of Branson, MO, and Dan Russell and his wife Kari of Worthington; 12 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren. Harry was preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter Kathleen, son Jerry, grandson Scott; and his sister Marian Hendricks. Visitation will be Monday, June 15, 2009 from 3pm-8pm, with the family present from 5pm-8pm, at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Worthington. The funeral will be held on Tuesday, June 16, 2009 at 10:30am at the Bigelow Community Church, with the Rev. Ron Lammers presiding. A private family burial will be held.
