HELEN LOUISE ERICKSON, age 90, of Luverne, died Saturday, February 6, 2010, at the Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. She was born June 16, 1919, in Hardwick to Leonard and Minnie (Rath) Arp. Helen was baptized in Rock Rapids, IA. She attended school in Rock County; and was instructed & confirmed by Rev. Martin Hauser of the Zion Lutheran Church, in Hardwick, in 1937. Helen married Robert Erickson on February 14, 1939, at the church parsonage in Luverne. The couple farmed in the Hardwick area for ten years and in the Magnolia & Luverne areas for twenty one years. Helen worked at Arnie?s, Dairy Queen Enterprises, Herried?s Jewelry and Laudon?s Drug Store, all of Luverne, before retiring in 1995. They moved to Luverne in 1988. She was a charter member of the Bethany Lutheran Church, in Luverne, where she held various offices in Ladies Aid, Church Circles, Sunday School Teacher & Vacation Bible School Teacher. Helen was a 4-H Leader for nineteen years, member of the Magnolia School Mothers Club, served on the Rock County Extension Committee and was Homemaker of the year in 1967. Helen is survived by her four children, Darwin (Joann) Erickson, Spencer, IA; Sandra (John) Smith, Shawano, WI; Bryce (Kathie) Erickson, Minnetonka; and Minnell (Jim) Tralle, Elk River; five grandchildren, Michael Smith, Sara Montes, Dirk (Jennifer) Erickson, Andrew (Claire) Tralle, Erick Tralle, four step-grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, MacKenzie, Payton, Jada and two sisters, Elaine (Alvin) Boomgaarden, Luverne; and Eunice Claussen, Luverne. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert, on November 12, 2002; sister, Norma Rolfs; and a brother, Loryn.
