HELEN LUCILLE HEIKES, age 86, of Luverne, died Wednesday, March 24, 2010, at the Sanford Hospital in Luverne. She was born February 27, 1924, in Osceola County, IA, to Edwin and Anna (Naughital) Bohnert. She attended country school in rural Osceola County, IA. Helen married Emmet Heikes on June 30, 1942, in Viola Township, rural Sibley, IA. After their marriage, the couple farmed in Rock & Nobles Counties. Helen was a homemaker and also worked as a cook at the Magnolia Steak House, in Magnolia, for many years. The couple retired and moved to Luverne in 1985. She was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Luverne. She enjoyed crocheting, cooking and spending time with her family. Helen is survived by her three children, Liela (Bill) Jackson, Mitchell, SD; Sharon (Neil) Dohlmann, Magnolia; and Gary (Sue) Heikes, Montevideo; eleven grandchildren, Christie (Andrew) Heikes, Jill (Mat) Hink, Kari Heikes, LaDawn (Dean) Farland, Brenda (Monte) Erickson, Nancy (Steve) Nedved, Tom (Kelly) Dohlmann, Pam (Mike) Wiering, Jeff (Doreen) Heikes, Brian Heikes & Mellisa (Tyler) Artlip; twenty one great grandchildren, Amy (Jen) Krupp, Kimber Erickson, Chad (Brooke) Smith, Ashley Smith (friend, Bob), Lucas Farland, Avery Hink, Mason Hink, Kendal Hink, Callie Arthur, Campbell Arthur, Ashley Dohlmann, Allison Dohlmann, Christin Dohlmann, Justin Dohlmann, Jessica Wiering, Eric Wiering, Brent Wiering, Emmet Heikes, Allison Heikes, Jason Nedved & Jeff Nedved; three great great grandchildren, Alexandria, Dominac & Cyris; and a sister, Ruth Curtner, Reno, NV. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Emmet, in 2002; son, Ronald, in 2010; brother, Loren Bonhart; and two sisters, Evelyn Heikes & Elsie Noble.
