Obituary

Helen Mae Hartman, age 94 of Worthington MN, died Saturday  the 11th day of October 2014 at the Sanford Hospice Cottage in Luverne MN.  Helen was born April 9th 1920 on the  family homestead in rural Reading MN, to Charles and Katie (Brinkhous) Kuhl. She was baptized on May 2, 1920 at St. John's Lutheran Church.  Helen attended elementary school in Reading; and graduated from Worthington High School.
Helen married Henry Hartman on May 20th 1940 in the parsonage of the Rushmore Lutheran Church.  The couple moved to Slayton MN to start farming along with Henry's brother Thomas.  A fire took the family home in 1942 but Henry and Helen continued the family farm until 1946, at that time the couple with their two boys Gary and Don moved to Worthington MN.
In 1949, the family moved to  Yankton SD, where Henry worked on Home construction near the Gavins Point Dam.   From 1951 to 1953 Henry worked on the air force base in Thule Greenland while Helen and her three children (Gary, Don and Linda) returned to Worthington Mn.  During Henry's stay in Greenland, Helen worked for Campbell Soup (1951 to1955).   In 1955 the family returned to farming near Reading MN.
In 1958 Henry and  Helen along with their family moved to  Gary SD to start their own dairy  farm.  They enjoyed living in the hills of South Dakota until 1965, when a farming accident caused Henry's permanent disability.  Helen then moved her family back to Worthington.  They resided on the South Shore of Lake Okabena.  While caring for Henry,  Helen worked at the state school for Crippled Children.  Helen worked at this job until she retired in 1985.  Henry passed away in 1995.  Helen lived on South Shore Drive for 42 years.  In 2007 Helen moved to the Homestead on the west side of Worthington.   On February 13th of 2012 Helen became a resident of the South Shore Care Center.  She lived here until her passing October 11th 2014.
She was a member of Saint Matthews Lutheran Church since its founding.  She attended bible study and was  a active member of the church.  Helen was a home maker and a care giver.  She loved to bake and cook and care for her family.  She enjoyed her children and her grandchildren.
Helen was devoted to her family, she taught by example, especially in the way  she lived her faith.  She loved Jesus, her church, and her family.  May God bless her now and always.
Helen is survived by her three children, Gary (Glenna) Hartman, Wichita, KS; Donald (Patricia) Hartman, Golden Valley MN and Linda (Mark) Hinkie, Port Ludlow, WA:  six grandchildren Debbie (Ed) Boehle, Donald (Becky) Hartman, Teresa (Tim) Lloyd, Christine (Guru) Bandekar, Brenda (Poul) Andersen and Todd (Alejandra) Hinkie: nine treat grandchildren: brother Ray ( Vernice) Kuhl and a sister Norma Rienstra of Worthington.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Henry: Two brothers, Don and Dale Kuhl; three sisters Marlys Walsh, Wanda Crader and  an infant sister LaVonne; step sister  Beverly Kruse.
