Obituary

HELEN L. (OSTREM) STIRLER, age 94, died Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at Adrian Country Living Care Center in Adrian. She was born on February 12, 1916 in Sibley, IA to parents, Lewis and Anna (Keen) Michelson. Helen grew up and attended school in Sibley. She later moved to Ocheyedan, IA. Helen was united in marriage to Albert Ostrem on December 1, 1933 in Sibley. After their marriage the couple moved to Bigelow. They later moved to the Brewster area and were engaged in farming. Helen helped on the farm and worked for Campbell Soup Company for eight and a half years. She also worked at Dickey Drug, in Worthington and cooked at a number of restaurants. She also was employed at the Shady Lane Motel and worked as a nurse?s aid for Fauskee Nursing Home for fifteen years. Albert died in 1971 and Helen moved to Worthington in 1972. On June 26, 1982, Helen married John Stirler in Sibley. John died in 1989. Helen was a member of the American Lutheran Church in Worthington and was very active with the American Lutheran sewing club. She was a volunteer for RSVP, Crossroads and Southshore Care Center in Worthington. She also was a member of the Worthington American Legion Auxiliary and the Sibley VFW Auxiliary. Helen enjoyed quilting, sewing, embroidering, reading and baking. Helen is survived by five children, Arlene Lamfers, Sibley, IA; Verlin (Brenda) Ostrem, Worthington; Ronald (Laura) Ostrem, Denver, CO; Sandra Dixon, Worthington; Douglas (Patricia) Ostrem, Las Vegas, NV; and step-daughter, Sharon (Ron) Yoshida, Bethlehem, PA; twelve grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, and one brother, Everett (Donna) Michelson, Kansas City, KS. She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, three sisters, Clara Immens, Margaret Beerman & Dorothy Wollmuth; two brothers, Donald & Eddie Michelson; and one step-son, Dennis Stirler.
