Obituary


Henry Paul Luchtenburg of Edgerton was born to John and Sadie (VanPeursem) Luchtenburg on November 28, 1936 on the farm by Orange City, Iowa, where he was raised until the age of 9 years.  In 1946 they moved to a farm in Murray County, Minnesota by Edgerton where he received his education at the local country school and Christian school.  In 1951 he went to work in Michigan building silos.
On October 5, 1956 he was united in marriage to Shirley Smith in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  Following their marriage they moved to Minnesota and lived on a farm in Murray County by Edgerton.  Paul milked cows until 2001 and crop farmed until his stroke on March 17, 2013.   Paul's hobby was parting out older machinery and metal scraping and watching Survivors and Everyone Loves Raymond.
Paul was a member of the Bethel Reformed Church in Leota, Minnesota and served as a Deacon from 2010 – 2012.
Paul served in the Army National Guard for about a year.
On March 17, 2013 Paul suffered a severe stroke, which left him paralyzed on his right side and unable to speak.  He entered Mary Jane Brown Nursing Home in Luverne on March 22, 2013 until June 1, 2013.  On June 2, 2013 Paul was transferred to Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD where he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, which had spread to his liver and lungs.  On June 4, 2013 he became a patient at The Cottage Hospice House in Luverne, Minnesota where he died on June 10, 2013 at the age of 76 years, 7 months, 41 days.
Paul is lovingly remembered by his wife Shirley Luchtenburg of Edgerton, Minnesota.  Two children Brian (Joni) Luchtenburg, Edgerton and Sheila Kinney (Mark Kilmer), Leota.  Two granddaughters Lacie Luchtenburg, Denver Colorado, and Samantha Luchtenburg, Colorado Springs, Colorado and Adopted grandson Peter Luchtenburg, Williston, ND.  Two sisters Shirley Lohse, Willmar, MN and Helen (Roy) VandenBosch, Visalia, CA and one sister-in-law Clara Mae Luchtenburg, Ada, Michigan and several nieces and nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Rodney Luchtenburg and two brother-in-laws Wilbur Zimmer and John (Pork) Kreun.
