HENRY OSCAR LUPKES, age 88, of Rushmore, died Friday, January 5, 2007, at the Luverne Sioux Valley Hospice Cottage. He was born October 1, 1918, in rural Rushmore, to Oscar and Anna (Boots) Lupkes. He attended country school near Rushmore. Henry loved traveling around the country on his Harley Davidson motorcycle & racing. He entered the United States Navy and served his country during WWII on the USS Saratoga as a CB 3. Henry married Agnes Andersen on September 4, 1954, at the Eastfriesland Presbyterian Church in rural Rushmore. The couple spent most of their married lives on the farm north of Rushmore. He was a member of the Eastfriesland Presbyterian Church, in Rushmore; and the Wilmont VFW. After retirement, Henry enjoyed refurbishing windmills, gas engines & antique tractors. He also enjoyed playing pinochle, collecting license plates & especially spending time with his grandchildren. Henry is survived by his two sons, David & Larry Lupkes, Rushmore; two daughters, Sally Lupkes, Las Cruces, NM; and Sherri (Paul) Ritter, Okeechobee, FL; and two grandchildren, Emily & Jonathan Ritter. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Agnes, on July 20, 2006; a brother, Aielt Lupkes; and a sister, Bertha Raley. A tree will be planted in memory of Henry Lupkes, by Hospice of Luverne Sioux Valley Hospital.
