Obituary

HENRY PRINS, age 95, of Edgerton, formerly of Leota, died Wednesday, May 12, 2010, at the Pipestone County Medical Center in Pipestone. He was born December 28, 1914, on the family farm near Leota, to Peter and Johanna (Van Surksum) Prins. Henry attended Lismore Public School and Leota Christian School. He helped farm with his father. Henry married Dorothy Ruisch on February 15, 1940, in the home of Dorothy?s uncles, Neal & Marinus Beukelman. After their marriage, the couple farmed in the Leota area for twenty five years. On October 15, 1965, they moved to Sheldon, IA, where they were managers at the Christian Retirement Home. In 1980, they retired and moved to Leota. In November of 2002, they moved to Edgebrook Estates in Edgerton. He was a faithful member of the Bethel Reformed Church, in Leota. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, playing Rook and having fun. Henry is survived by his wife, Dorothy Prins, Edgerton; three children, Vernon (Arlis) Prins, Leota; Nelma (Ken) Groninga, Dunlap, IA; and Diana (Larry) Jahn, Garnett, KS; seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; three brothers, Ed Prins, Escalon, CA; Cornie Prins, Byron Center, MI; and John (Maureen) Prins, Sanborn, IA; three sisters, Annie Vander Broek, Edgerton; Trina Bouma, Edgerton; and Hattie (Gerrit) Terpstra, Buckeye, AZ; and a brother-in-law, Bernard Hofkamp, Oak Harbor, WA. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Gerrit, Simon & Peter Prins; and four sisters, Mary Prins, Johanna Van Dyke, Henrietta Kooiman & Hilda Hofkamp. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM Friday at the Bethel Reformed Church in Leota. Funeral will be 10:30 AM Saturday at the Bethel Reformed Church, in Leota, officiated by Rev. Barry Lang. Burial will be in the Leota Community Cemetery. Leota Burial Association & Dingmann Funeral Home, in Adrian, is in charge of arrangements.
