Obituary

HENRY SCHMIT, age 90, of Worthington, formerly of Wilmont, died Saturday, January 17, 2009, at the Sanford Adrian Care Center. He was born March 6, 1918, the youngest of five children, in Wilmont, to Nick and Elizabeth (Honnerman) Schmit. Henry attended country school up to the eighth grade. He later went back to school in Worthington, and graduated with a GED in 1972. Henry married Charlotte Fritz on October 5, 1943, in Lismore. After their marriage, the couple took over his family farm near Wilmont and he worked for Nick?s Red Owl in Fulda. In 1975, after years of farming, they retired and bought a home in Worthington where they did home daycare. At that same time, Henry worked at Campbell Soup as a maintenance man, and volunteered his time as a crossing guard for Worthington High School. Throughout their lives together, Henry & Charlotte opened their home to care for ill family members. In 1988, they moved to the Sunshine Apartments in Worthington. Henry moved to the Sanford Adrian Care Center in August of 2004. He was a member of St. Mary?s Catholic Church in Worthington; and the St Joseph Catholic Aid Society of St. Kilian, for more then fifty years. Henry was an avid reader and his passion for reading has fostered continued life-long learning in areas of interest to him. He enjoyed politics, fishing, spending time with his family, playing cards, bingo, listening to country music or Lawrence Welk, watching game shows and old television shows, and sharing a good laugh or joke. Henry is survived by his wife, Charlotte Schmit, Worthington; five children and their spouses, Lois & Dan Einck, Worthington; Mary Ann & Clyde Hoffman, Worthington; Carol & Gene Hieronimus, Rushmore; Charles & Theresa Schmit, Coon Rapids; and Karen & John Leise, Yutan, NE; eleven grandchildren, Monte (Denise) Einck, Brad (Marion) Einck, Nathan Einck, Joel Hoffman, Dave (Angie) Hoffman, Jason (Jessica) Hieronimus, Kelly (Shawn) Kluever, Nicholas Schmit, Joseph Schmit, Brice (Anna) Bultmann & Emily Leise; and ten great grandchildren, Allison, Makenna, Maxten, Iris & Charlotte Einck, Jenna Hoffman, Mia & Charlie Hieronimus and Megan & Logan Kluever and one sister-in-law, Genevieve Diekmann, Worthington.
