Obituary

HERMAN MEYER, age 92, of Worthington, died Monday, December 4, 2006, at the South Shore Care Center, in Worthington. He was born April 18, 1914 in Round Lake Township, to William and Marie (Christoffer) Meyer. Herman married Harriet Ruby Ling on April 29, 1939. After their marriage, the couple made their home in Round Lake Township, Jackson County. Herman hauled cream for the Sioux Valley Creamery, and later started to raise turkeys and farm on a farm he rented. In 1947, he purchased a quarter section in Lorain Township, Nobles County, where he continued to expand the turkey business and farming operation. In 1974, he moved his residence to Worthington and he and his two sons, Lyle & Myron formed and operated Meyer Turkey Farm. In 1978, Herman retired from farming and moved to Green Valley, AZ. They returned to Worthington in 1990. He was a member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church, in Worthington, where he served on the board of finances, trustees, and elders. He also helped, along with many other members, to build the St. Matthews Lutheran Church building that was dedicated in 1951. He served on the Production Credit Association of Worthington Board of Directors for many years. Herman also served on the Board of Directors of the Nobles County Coop Oil Company for many years; and was a member of the Worthington Kiwanis Club. He was an avid fisherman and loved fishing with his children and grandchildren. Herman is survived by his five children and their spouses, Robert & Diana Meyer, Orlando, FL; Myron & Sandy Meyer, Worthington; Lyle & Deb Meyer, Worthington; Jane & Jim Malenke, Caledonia, WI; and Dale & Ann Meyer, Shakopee; fifteen grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Place, Lakefield; and Elvira Koster, Round Lake. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Ruby, on November 24, 2006; daughter, Marcille Farrow, in August of 2004; two brothers, Raymond & Alvin Meyer; and a sister, Tracy Hamann.
