Obituary

HERMAN JOHN WIERTZEMA, age 83, of Ellsworth, died Thursday, September 25, 2008, at the Sanford Luverne Hospital. He was born November 6, 1924, in Little Rock Township, MN, to George and Luella (Habbena) Wiertzema. He attended country school in rural Little Rock Township. Herman married Lena DeBoer on December 6, 1944, in Rushmore. After their marriage, the couple farmed near Little Rock. In 1963, they moved to the farm two miles east of Ellsworth. They retired and moved into Ellsworth in 1998. He was a member of the Zion Presbyterian Church, in Ellsworth, where he had served as an ordained Deacon & Trustee. Herman was also a member of the Viola Township School Board. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, farming, milking cows, working on his antique tractors and passing his love of farming on to his son, grandson & great grandson. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren. Herman is survived by his wife, Lena Wiertzema, Ellsworth; son and daughter-in-law, Dave & Jerre Wiertzema, rural Ellsworth; three grandchildren, Brian Wiertzema, rural Ellsworth; Carolyn (Jason) Krapfl, Ft. Atkinson, WI; and Jill (Chris) Wolf, Adrian; five great grandchildren, Olivia, Daniel & Emily Krapfl; and Quentin & Anastasia Wolf; three brothers, Virgil (Anita) Wiertzema, Bigelow; Marvin ?Mike? (Verna) Wiertzema, Rushmore; and Orvin (Nancy) Wiertzema, Worthington; and three sisters, Florence Winter, Rock Rapids, IA; Rosella (Harm) Dammer, Worthington; and Delores ?Lorie? (Ed) Weiss, Adrian. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Verona Wiertzema; and a brother, Clarence Wiertzema. Visitation will be from 4-8 pm Sunday at Zion Presbyterian Church, in Ellsworth; and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Funeral will be 10:30 AM Monday at the Zion Presbyterian Church, in Ellsworth, officiated by Rev. David Poppen. Burial will be in the Grand Prairie Cemetery, in Ellsworth. A tree will be planted in memory of Herman Wiertzema, by Hospice of Sanford Luverne Hospital. Dingmann Funeral Home, in Adrian, is in charge of arrangements.
