HEROLD  J.  MARSKE, age 94, of Luverne, formerly of Worthington,  died Friday, May 22, 2020, at the Minnesota Veterans Home, in Luverne.  He was born on November 23, 1925,  in Mapleton, MN, the son of John and Erma (Jaeger) Marske.  He graduated from Mapleton High School and received a Masters Degree in Elementary School Administration from Winona (teachers) State College in Winona, MN.

He was principal at Altura, MN for five years and later the first principal of West Elementary in Worthington, where he served for twenty five years.  He retired due to his health in 1980.

He served in WWII with the rank of Sergeant.  He served at five army bases in the United States.  He was in the Pacific Theatre at New Guinea, Leyte, Okinawa (twice), Guam,  Saipan, Tiran and Korea.  He became a disabled veteran receiving two Purple Heart awards.

He was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, VFW, American Legion, and was a life member of Disabled American Vets and the Worthington Lions Club.  He was especially active in the Lions Club in which he was a Charter Member since February of 1956.  He served as a District Governor in Lions during the 1967-68 years.  He had the two most prestigious award in Lionism; The Melvin Jones and Helen Keller awards.

Besides his wife of 73 years, Monica, he is survived by a daughter, Kim Buehs, Tacoma, WA; a son, Kyle (special friend Alicia) Marske, Round Lake; a granddaughter, Lyndsey (Josh) Smith, Tacoma, WA.

Herald is preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Ralph.
