Obituary

HOWARD WILLIAM MEYER, age 72, of Adrian, died peacefully in his home on Monday, January 10, 2011. He was born as a twin to Reual F. and Helen M. (Dickson) Meyer at Luther Hospital in Eau Claire, Wisconsin on April 13, 1938. Howard grew up on the family dairy farm in rural Elk Mound with his oldest brother Richard, an older sister Janice and twin brother Harold. He enjoyed his growing up years. As a young boy he had a hobby of raising pigeons, was part of 4-H, and later became an active 4-H leader. Howard attended school in Elk Mound and graduated from Elk Mound High School in the spring of 1956. He then went on to attend the University of Wisconsin Madison in Agriculture. It was at the UW Madison that he became part of the Babcock Fraternity. After college, Howard served in the ROTC program in the Army Reserves. Howard began his banking career in 1969 as a cashier at Kanabec State Bank, Mora, MN. In 1971, he joined Voyageur Bank Group as Operations Coordinator in Mora. He graduated from the Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin, Madison in 1977. He was Executive Vice President of the State Bank of Worthington from 1972 until 1982. In 1982 until his retirement he was employed by the Adrian State Bank. Howard is survived by his older brother Richard Meyer of Lodi, WI, twin brother Harold (Alison) Meyer of Elk Mound, WI, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Also by close friends, Scott Heidebrink (Dana and children) of Adrian, MN, Fredi (Yvonne) Lutz of Hausmattstrasse, Switzerland, Brian "Boots" Wohnoutka of Sioux Falls, SD , Jerry "Tig"(Lois) of Young America, MN and Mike (Norma) Ginter of Amery, WI plus many other friends and associates. He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents, aunts and uncles, his parents, sister Janice (Meyer) Bochman and her husband Mel Bochman, and sister-in-law Pat (Dick) Meyer. Dingmann Funeral Home of Adrian, MN has been assisting the family and there will be a graveside family gathering in the spring at Waneka Cemetery in rural Elk Mound, WI.
