HOWARD WAYNE PETERSON, of Luverne, formerly of Mankato, was born May 21, 1929, in Ortonville, to Hartwick and Alta (Oberholtzer) Peterson. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Howard married Gloria Parrow on March 18, 1960, in Chisholm, Minnesota. After their marriage, the couple homesteaded near Fairbanks, AK. Howard worked as a Locomotive Engineer. After retiring in 1974, they began traveling to different cities before buying a home north of Isle, MN on Lake Mille Lacs. In July of 2001, the couple moved to Mankato. In August of 2009, Howard became a resident of the Minnesota Veterans Home in Luverne. He enjoyed fishing, big game hunting and traveling. Howard is survived by his wife, Gloria Peterson, Mankato; two children, Sharon (Larry) Powley, Lawrence, KS; and Steven (Vicki) Peterson, Mankato; eight grandchildren, Lea Hona, Bryan, Wesley Jr., Jennifer, Gena, Kevin, Katherine & Kenneth; two great grandchildren; brother, Gene (MaryHelen) Peterson, Portland, OR; sister, Joyce (Gene) Howell, Molalla, OR; half brother, David (Lois) Peterson, Fairbault; two half sisters, Aleta Kvatum, St. Cloud; and Alesa Burke, Elk River; step sister, Aloma (Allen) Gourley, Gerring, NE; and a step brother, Delroy Peterson, Clinton. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, Wesley, in 1988.
