(Bonnes) Hoftyzer
March 1, 1924 – July 8, 2018
INEZ EVELYN HOFTYZER, age 94, of Worthington, died Sunday, July 8, 2018, at the Sanford Sunset Hospice Cottage in Worthington. She was born March 1, 1924, in rural Ocheyedan, IA (Osceola County) to Cornelius and Kate (Westra) Bonnes. She attended schools in Iowa & Minnesota. After her schooling ended, Inez helped in various homes doing housework and childcare. At the age of eighteen, she moved to California and began working in a boarding house.
Inez married Gerold Hoftyzer on April 8, 1943 in Yuma, Arizona. While Gerald was in the Army, Inez lived at Leavenworth, KS and St. Louis, MO. After Gerald was discharged, they moved back to Ocheyedan to begin farming. In 1972, they moved to a farm north of Rushmore, retiring and moving into Worthington in 1985.
She was a past member of the Ocheyedan Christian Reformed Church and presently a member of the Worthington Christian Reformed Church where she taught Sunday school. Inez attended worship services led by the Worthington Baptist Temple the past year and a half while she resided in Golden Horizons. She also volunteered for many years at the Worthington Public Library and the Bibles for Mission Store. She loved reading, doing handwork, and helping her husband on the farm.
Inez is survived by her three children, Howard (Ricki) Hoftyzer, Rushmore; Irene (Hank) Eggink, Littleton, Colorado and Colleen (Ivan) Van Berkum, Sioux Center, IA; a daughter-in-law, Audrey Hoftyzer, Boyden, IA; five grandchildren, Kayla (Kevin) Rosenboom, Craig (Kristen) Hoftyzer, Ryan (Larissa) Hoftyzer, Jonathan (Nicole) Van Berkum and David (Melissa) Van Berkum; eleven great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Everdeane Bonnes, Holland, MI; and two brothers-in-law, Harold Hoftyzer, Sheldon, IA; and Fred "Fritz" Graves, Atlanta, GA.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gerold on December 16, 2006; two sons, John Allen Hoftyzer and Jerry Lee Hoftyzer, two grandsons, Jesse Van Berkum and Mark Hoftyzer; three brothers, John, Ed and Clarence Bonnes; and five sisters, Doris Wassenaar, Engelena Riemersma, Catherine Meurs, Cornelia Post and Wilmyna Graves.
Visitation will be from 6-8 pm Tuesday at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Worthington; and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Funeral will be Wednesday at 10:30 am at the Christian Reformed Church, in Worthington, officiated by Pastor LeRoy Christoffels. Burial will be in the Worthington Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
