Obituary

JACOB GEORGE WERKMAN, age 78, of Rushmore, passed away September 20, 2018 at the Sanford USD Medical Center. He was born June 14, 1940 to Abraham and Dena Werkman in Ellsworth, Minnesota. He grew up on the family farm south of Rushmore and  graduated from Adrian High School in 1959. After high school Jake enlisted in the Army National Guards and completed basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, and was stationed at Fort Ord in Salinas, California.

In 1963 Jake was united in marriage to Linda Polzine. The couple lived in Rushmore their entire married life. He worked many jobs in his life including 19 years at Campbell Soup in Worthington, shortly after leaving he bought his first truck and became an Owner-Operator. He sold his truck in 1985 because of an injury. In 1998 he decided to purchase another truck and leased on with LeRoy Prins Trucking in Rushmore. Over the years Jake would buy more trucks and start driving over the road until 2014, due to health issues. In recent years he decided to drive locally for LeRoy Prins Trucking and Steve Bents Trucking.

Jake and Linda were members of the East Friesland Church of Christ. He enjoyed being with family and friends. Loved to support his grandson at sporting events. He also liked going to racing events at multiple local tracks and watching Nascar on TV. He also collected Henry Rifles and many different Caps.

Jacob is survived by his wife of 55 years,  Linda Werkman, Rushmore; son, Jim Werkman, Rushmore; grandson's, Dylan and Owen; and his beloved dog, Zoe, along with many close friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Abraham and Dena Werkman; son, Roger in 1972; an infant daughter, Terry in 1967; and his brother Dick Werkman.

Visitation will be from 4-7 pm Sunday at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Worthington; and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Funeral will be 10:30 am Monday at the Eastfriesland Church of Christ, in Rushmore, officiated by Dan Dettman. Burial with full military honors provided by the Worthington American Legion & VFW will be in the Emmanuel Presbyterian Cemetery south of Rushmore.
