JAMES R. GALAGAN, age 88, of Worthington, died Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Luverne. He was born on April 22, 1925 in Lismore, MN; to parents Robert and Julia (Daldrup) Galagan. He attended country school until the 8th grade.
He faithfully served his country in World War II and was awarded various medals including the World War II Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal and a Purple Heart. In 2005 he was presented the Normandy Jubilee of Liberty Medal. This medal was given to pay tribute to the men and women who fought in Normandy to restore freedom to the French people. He was honorably discharged in November, 1945.
James was united in marriage to Evelyn Probst on August 30th, 1949 in Wilmont, MN. They made their home in Worthington where they raised their family.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Worthington. He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was quick to share with them a funny story or anecdote.
James is survived by his children, Robyn (David) Funk, Worthington, MN; Michael (Kim) Galagan, Indianapolis, IN; Caroline (Harris) Solma, Sleepy Eye, MN; six grandchildren, Erin (Mark) Top, Adam (Christine) Funk, Patrick Galagan (friend Kylie) Aimee Galagan (friend Chris), Julia (Alex) Lux, Taylor Solma; two great grandchildren, Norah Top and Caleb Funk and sister-in-law Ceal Galagan.
He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, one son, John Galagan, four brothers Robert, William, Cyril, Carl and three sisters Lola Mensen, Vernes Turnbull, and Inez Peschel.
