James Douglas Jarchow, age 79, of Luverne, MN, died Saturday, November 30, 2013, at Sanford Hospital in Luverne.  He was born April 10, 1934 in Luverne to Edward and Elsie (Goettsch) Jarchow.  He graduated from Luverne High School in 1952.  Prior to his marriage he travelled all over the country working for a construction company building steel buildings.
Jim married Frances Cotter on May 4, 1957, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Dell Rapids, SD.  The couple lived in Luverne all of their married lives.  Jim had various jobs during their marriage including working for St. Catherine Catholic Church and the City of Luverne managing the Municipal Liquor Store.  After Fran's death in 2001, Jim had a second marriage to Mavis (Staeffler) Jarchow.
Jim was a member of St. Catherine Catholic Church in Luverne and the Knights of Columbus.  Some of his favorite pastimes included fishing, playing cards, and reading.  Some of his children's fondest memories are of fishing with their father. Jim is remembered as a hard worker and family man.
Jim is survived by his seven children and their spouses, 24 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren:  Jane and Vince Huwe  (Andy and Nicole)of Dell Rapids, SD; John and Kathy (Nate – wife Meghann and children Emerson and Thea; Jonathan, and  Karen) of Luverne; Dan and Katie (Kimberly, Veronica, Courtney and Charles) of Chandler, AZ; Mike and Wanda (Amelia, Elise, Griffen, Anja, Katia and Lydia) of Luverne; Ellen and Jean-Claude Moritz(Sebastian, Alec and Theo) of Edwards, CO; Gina and Rob Newman (Jamie, Kelly and Brianna) of Wilmont, MN; Tim and Kayla (Jacob, Luke and Ben) of Luverne. Jim is also survived by his sister, Dorothy DeSchepper of Garretson, SD and numerous nieces and nephews.    He was preceded in death by his wife Fran, his parents Ed and Elsie, sisters Mary, Bonnie and Neva, and his brother Gordon.
Visitation will be from 4-8 PM Monday, December 2 at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Luverne, with a prayer service at 7:30.  Visitation will continue from 1-2 PM prior to the 2 PM funeral on Tuesday, December 3 at St. Catherine Catholic Church.  The funeral will be officiated by Father Thomas Jennings.  Burial will be at St. Catherine Cemetery in Luverne.
