James Dean Lanoue

   James Dean Lanoue, age 57, of Hardwick, MN, passed away Friday, August 21, 2026, at the Sanford Medical Center, in Sioux Falls, SD. He was surrounded by family in his final moments. James was born to Richard “Rick” and RoseAnn “Toots” (Welvert) Lanoue on September 3, 1968, in Kewanee, Illinois.

   James lived in Kewanee for a short time before moving to Marshall, MN for a short time, eventually moving to Tracy, MN. He lived in Tracy for nine years and attended Tracy Elementary School and Tracy High School. James finished his High School education at Marshall High School in Minnesota. After graduating, he worked at a grocery store as a bag boy before working at Swift Turkey Plant in Marshall.

   James met Paula Johnson and they got married in April of 1992. James adopted Paula’s son, Cody James Johnson. They moved to Pipestone, MN where James worked as a meat cutter, in the same facility for 37 years for Ellison Meats, J & B Group and JBS. James and Paula had one daughter, Courtney Lea Lanoue. James and Paula divorced in 1997.

   James met Karina Mahoney in 1999. They dated for 19 years before getting married on May 11, 2019. James became the stepfather of Karina’s three children; Trillium Simington, John Mahoney, and Kristina DeKam.

   James Loved watching football, especially his favorite team, The Minnesota Vikings. He also enjoyed horse back riding and camping. James was a great listener and had a contagious laugh. James was a loving husband and father.

   James is survived by his wife Karina Lanoue; two children, Cody (Jenna) Lanoue, Luverne; and Courtney (Scott) Walz, Sioux Falls, SD; three step-children, Kristina (Jeremy) DeKam, Luverne; Trillium Simington, Hilo, HI; and John (Chelsy) Mahoney, Sioux Falls, SD; four siblings, Deb (Larry) Guyer, Madelia; Curt (Margaret) Lanoue, Marshall; Gary (Stacey) Lanoue, Cottonwood; and Shari (Ben) Lanoue, Burnsville; thirteen grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

   James is preceded in death by his parents, Richard and RoseAnn (Welvert) Lanoue; and grandparents, Alfred and Elda Lanoue; and Victor and Anne Welvaert.

   Visitation will be Friday, August 28, from 4:00 to 7:00 at the Dingmann funeral home in Luverne followed by a Funeral Service at 7:00. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 29, from 11:00 to 1:00 at Jeremy & Kristina DeKam’s house at 1228 71st St., Luverne, MN, 56156.
