Obituary

JAMES "JIM" RAY WIEBERSIEK, age 74, of Laurel, Mississippi, formerly of Worthington, passed away on Friday, May 30, 2025, at the University Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi. Jim was born on October 28, 1950, to Elmer and Lucile (Hoogestraat) Wiebersiek. He grew up in Parker, SD, before the family moved to the countryside near Chancellor, SD.  Jim attended country grade school for eight years and later graduated from Parker High School in 1968. Following high school, Jim entered the workforce and eventually built a career with Shusher's Trucking, where he worked from 1996 to 2017, when he retired. In 1995, he married Dayle Grein. Together, they became members of St. Mary's Lutheran Church in Worthington. Their marriage brought together two families—Jim became a second father to Dayle's two adult children, and Dayle lovingly became a second mother to Jim's adult daughter. Dayle passed away in 2021. On February 2, 2022, Jim married Shari Wollenburg at St. Mary's Lutheran Church in Worthington. In 2023, Jim and Shari moved away from Worthington and made their home in Laurel, Mississippi. Jim was an avid woodworker, always tinkering in his shop making quilt racks, rocking chairs, and custom orders. He loved helping others and he was known for his smiles, warm hugs, and Minnesota goodbyes. His love for helping extended to many other aspects of his life, including his support of: Missions for Bibles and Love, Inc. Jim was happiest when outdoors, whether working on a tractor, tending his garden, or taking his Harley out for a ride. "Hold on tight," he would say—always putting safety first, especially with a helmet for riders 18 and under. Jim is survived by his wife, Shari Wollenburg; daughter Tonia (Shaun) Koppin of Brookings, SD; son Chad (Tammy) Meyer of Windom, MN; daughter Jamie (James) Blanchard of Sioux Falls, SD; seven grandchildren, Jason, Chance, Kenny, Lilly, Ren, Josie, and Jersey; one great-grandchild, Kayson; and two brothers, Don (Kathie) Wiebersiek of Chancellor, SD, and Lee (Kathy) Wiebersiek of Peoria, AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Lucile, and his wife Dayle. As Jim would say this is not good bye, it's just until we meet again.
