JAMES LOWELL SCHMIDT, age 61, of Marshalltown, IA, formerly of Luverne, passed away suddenly at his home in Marshalltown.
Jim was born on May 24, 1950, to Albert and Hilda (Holst) Schmidt in Wadena, MN. He grew up in Luverne and graduated from Luverne High School in 1968. Shortly after graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Army serving two tours of duty in Vietnam from 1969 to 1972.
Following his military service he married Jodi Black in 1973 and they later divorced. Three daughters were born to this union.
He was employed in Tama, IA and for many years at Concrete Inc. in Marshalltown until health issues forced him to retire.
Jim is survived by his daughters, Amy Schmidt, Marshalltown, IA; Kendra Kehoe, Montezuma, IA; Melissa Schmidt, Beaman, IA; three grandchildren, Talon, Lily and Korrinn; his siblings, Marilyn Schmidt, Luverne; Richard Schmidt, Avon, MN; Carol (Dallas) Dohlmann, Magnolia; Darlene (Dean) Brown, Minnetonka; Steven (Deb) Schmidt, Burnsville; Laurie (Delbert) Gangestad, Kenneth; Michael (Lori) Schmidt, Linccoln, NE; Judy (Tim) Wiese, Pipestone; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Ron and sister Londa
A time of fellowship will be one hour prior to the service.
A memorial service will be 2pm Saturday, February 4, 2012 at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Luverne, with Rev. Gary Klatt officiating. Burial of cremains will be at the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery following the service, near Steen.
