JAMES EDWARD TAYLOR, age 93, of the Adrian & Ellsworth area, died Friday, October 6, 2017, at the Rock Rapids Health Care Center. He was born September 15, 1924, in Westside Township, rural Adrian, to Bryan Charles and Carolyn (Krapfl) Taylor. Jim graduated from St. Adrian Catholic High School and later attended the University of Minnesota Agriculture School in Minneapolis. He entered the United States Navy on November 25, 1944 and served his country during WWII until being discharged on June 26, 1946.
Jim married Joan Madison on September 22, 1955, at St. Adrian Catholic Church. After farming in partnership with his brothers, they moved to their current farm between Adrian & Ellsworth in 1965. He continued to live on the farm, which was his pride & joy, after retiring in the early 1990's,
He was an active member of St. Mary Catholic Church, in Ellsworth, where he was an usher, Eucharistic Minister and supplied sweet corn for the fall festival. He loved fishing, the Minnesota Twins and Lynx and planting a big garden.
Jim is survived by his four sons, Mike (Terri) Taylor, Adrian; Randy (Anita) Taylor, Rock Valley, IA; Roger (Rachele) Taylor Lakeville; and Bruce (fiancé, Melinda Michels) Taylor, Sioux Falls, SD; daughter, Donna Taylor, Sioux Falls, SD; eight grandchildren, Austin Taylor, Matt Taylor, Nate Taylor, Maria Taylor, Shannon (Dweezle) Bordeaux, Brad Taylor, Sam Taylor & Andrew Taylor; four great grandchildren, Ella, Olivia, Mason & Jenna Bordeaux; three brothers, Bill (Dee) Taylor, Worthington; Carroll Taylor, Minneapolis; and Gene (Marva) Taylor, Adrian; two sisters-in-law, Evelyn Taylor, Worthington; and Mary Ann Taylor, Mason City, IA; many nieces & nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Joan on January 29, 2014; grandson, Noah Taylor, in 2003; five brothers, Jerry, Earl, Fr. Bob, Lloyd Paul and Bryan "Junior" Taylor; a sister, Joan (Sr. Brian) Taylor; and three sisters-in-law, Lucille, Beverly and Lorraine Taylor.
Visitation will be from 4-8 pm Friday, with parish prayers at 4 pm, at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Adrian. Visitation also one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Funeral will be 10:30 am Saturday at St. Mary Catholic Church, in Ellsworth, officiated by Fr. Thomas Jennings. Burial will be in the St. Adrian Cemetery.
