IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Janet Mary
(Weis) Gibson
July 23, 1937 – January 13, 2026
Janet Mary (Weis) Gibson, 88, of Luverne, MN, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2026, at Good Samaritan Village in Sioux Falls, SD.
Born July 23, 1937, in Wilmont, MN, Janet grew up in Adrian, MN, and later made her home in Luverne, MN. She graduated from Adrian High School in 1955 and earned her LPN from St. Mary's School of Nursing in Rochester, MN, in 1957. She spent her nursing career caring for patients at the Luverne Community Hospital and the Mary Jane Brown Home.
Janet married Raymond Gibson on June 1, 1961. Together they enjoyed many adventures, including travel to England in 1977 and celebrating their 40th anniversary in St. Thomas, USVI. After retiring in 2003, Janet worked mornings at McDonald's for a time before she and Ray began traveling and wintering in Yuma, AZ.
She was a talented crafter and scrapbooker, creating embroidery, sewing, knitting, crocheting, and albums that preserved family stories, especially Ray's military career. Her grandchildren were her "little angles," a phrase that came from a scrapbooking typo that became a beloved family joke. In later years, she cherished her digital photo frame, especially the video taken just after her great‑grandson's birth.
Janet is survived by her children Beth (Patrick) Lilja of Golden Valley, MN, and David (Emily) Gibson of Cedar Rapids, IA; grandchildren Laura (Lukas) Paterson of Humboldt, IA, Elizabeth Gibson of Robbinsdale, MN, and Benjamin (Emily Jane) Gibson of Williamsburg, IA; great‑grandson Jameson Paterson; siblings John (Jack) (LaDonna) Weis of Post Falls, ID, and Linda Smith of Menahga, MN; sister‑in‑law Marilyn Swenson of Hills, MN; her cousin Dorothy Moser of Ashley, IL; special niece Julie Becker; dear friends Laura Richters and Jenny McElyea; and many nieces, nephews, great‑nieces, and great‑nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ray; her parents Wilbert and Elizabeth (Broich) Weis; her in-laws Nelson (Pete) and Florence (LeClair) Gibson; siblings Wilbert (Bert) Jr. and Ann Pick; brothers‑in‑law Adrian Smith, Dale Swenson, and Leon Pick; nephews Heath Smith and Craig Becker; and her beloved grand‑puppy Cari.
Visitation will be from 4-7 pm Monday, January 19 at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Luverne; and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 am Tuesday at St. Catherine Catholic Church, in Luverne, officiated by Fr. Joshua Miller. Burial will be in the St. Catherine Cemetery.
