JANICE LAVONNE KNIPS, age 86, of Worthington, formerly of Lismore, Friday, March 18, 2016, at Sanford Luverne Hospice Cottage. She was born on May 1, 1929, in Hildreth, NE, to Fred and Grace (Saathoff) Alberts. As a young girl, she moved with her family to Okabena in 1936. In 1938, they moved to Chandler; and in 1941 they moved to Wilmont. Janice graduated from Worthington High School in 1947. She worked at Gramac's Clothing Store in Worthington.
Janice married Donald Knips on February 12, 1950 at the First Presbyterian Church in Wilmont. The couple farmed northwest of Lismore. They enjoyed wintering in Apache Junction, AZ.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Lismore where she taught Bible School & Sunday School, directed the church choir and was President of the Ladies Aid. She was also Chairman of the Adrian Public School PTA and the Music Parents Association. Janice loved to square dance, going to ceramics weekly, gardening, raising a huge flower garden, canning and freezing hundreds of jars of vegetables. She enjoyed baking and always had cake & cookies in her freezer for visitors.
Janice is survived by her four children, James (Kathy) Knips, Lismore;  Luann (Rick) Parker, Slayton; Gail (Jim) Rust, Magnolia; and Dean Knips, Lismore; eleven grandchildren; twenty three great grandchildren, one great great grandson; and two sisters-in-law, Xiem Alberts, Worthington; and Dorothy (Bob) Munns, Winnebago.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald on October 25, 2014; and her brother, Kent Alberts.
Visitation will be from 4-7 pm Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church in Lismore; and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Funeral will be 10:30 am Friday at the First Presbyterian Church, in Lismore, officiated by Pastor Tom Voigt. Burial will be in the Adrian Cemetery.
