JANICE ELIZABETH HANSON, age 89, of Adrian, died Friday, June 28, 2024, at the Parkview Manor Nursing Home in Ellsworth. She was born July 3, 1934 in Bloom Township, near Wilmont, to Otto and Bernice (Smith) Joens. She graduated from Worthington High School in 1952.
Janice married Robert Hanson on February 26, 1956, in Wilmont. After their marriage the couple farmed southeast of Adrian, where they also raised their six children. Robert died on March 10, 1976.
After losing her husband, Janice began working as a Tupperware sales consultant and later moved the family to Adrian. She worked for several years at the Adrian Rest Home. She enjoyed being a caregiver and became a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). She was employed by Arnold Memorial Nursing Home as a CNA for over thirty years where she became good friends with many coworkers and residents.
She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Adrian; the Ladies Aid; and the Extension Club. She enjoyed playing cards, especially cribbage, singing, gardening, birding, watching the Minnesota Twins, and having coffee with family & friends. She always had a fresh pot of coffee and a warm smile for all who visited. Janice was an entertaining storyteller and had a wonderful sense of humor and an incredibly sharp mind. She absolutely adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be deeply missed.
Janice is survived by her children, Melody (Paul) Maass, Waukesha, WI; Kristine (Todd) Mattson, St. Cloud; John (Amy) Hanson, Falcon Heights; Wade Hanson, Watertown, SD; Amy (Michael) Goldberg, St. Paul; and Erin (Michael) Waldman, Mendota Heights; eleven grandchildren, Kari (Scott) Stetson, Rachel (Brian) Barry, Nathan (Meghan) Maass, Seyward (Justin) Ask, Gunner Mattson, Sibley Mattson, Bennett Hanson, Noah Hanson, Charlotte Goldberg, Jason Waldman and Thomas Waldman; nine great grandchildren, Thora, Indigo, Guthrie, Jude, Ted, George, Brooklyn, Magnolia and Remy; and many nieces & nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert; two grandchildren, Garret Hanson and Mackenzie (Mack) Mattson; two brothers, Jim (her twin) and Alan Joens; and twin sisters, JoAnn Johnson and Joyce Willemssen.
Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 am Saturday at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Adrian. Funeral will be 11 am Saturday at the Dingmann Funeral Home, in Adrian, officiated by Pastor Bob Ossefoort. Burial will be in the Adrian Cemetery. A reception will follow at the Dayton House in Worthington.
