Obituary

JEANE  VAN LANT, age 86, of Leota, died Wednesday, March 1, 2017, at the Sanford USD Medical Center, in Sioux Falls, SD. She was born May 11, 1930, in Hull, IA, to Jake and Minnie (Scholten) De Jong. She attended school in Hull, IA.

Jeane married Cornie Van Lant on September 28, 1950, at the Bethel Reformed Church in Leota. The couple farmed north of Leota where they still reside.

She was a member of the Bethel Reformed Church in Leota. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, gardening, baking, camping and especially spending time with her family.

Jeane is survived by her husband, Cornie Van Lant, rural Leota; four children, Verna (Warren) Netjes, Andover; Brad (Deb) Van Lant, Linn Creek, MO; Brenda (Dwayne) Vander Vliet, Luverne; and Diane Irish, Sioux Falls, SD; thirteen grandchildren, Tammy, Kari, Sherri, Vicki, Michael, Jackie, Tyler, David, Cory, Brett, Amber, Ashley & Adam; nine great grandchildren, Morgan, Abby, Ashton, Addison, Sofie, Alexander, Savanna, Hunter & Jaymeson; and one great granddaughter on the way in April; brother, Leroy (Joyce) DeJong, Oak Harbor, WA; and a sister, Arla (Dick) Ruiter, Leota.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Joyce Shultis in 2007; and three siblings, Esther Landhuis, Don DeJong & Jackie Pronk.

Visitation will be from 5-8 pm Sunday at the Bethel Reformed Church in Leota. Funeral will be 11 am Monday at the Bethel Reformed Church officiated by Pastor Mark Groen. Burial will be in the Leota Community Cemetery.
