JEANETTE GOEBEL, age 92, of Luverne, died Wednesday, August 26, 2015, at the Mary Jane Brown Good Samaritan Home in Luverne. She was born June 15, 1923, in Sioux City, IA, to Vincent and Mary (Zientek) Kahoun. She graduated from Central High School, in Sioux City, in 1941; and from Morningside College in 1945.
Jeanette married Kenneth "Kenny" Goebel on September 22, 1946, at The Cathedral in Sioux City, IA. After their marriage, the couple lived in Sioux City where Jeanette taught at Morningside College. In 1948, they moved to Luverne. The couple owned and operated Kenny's on Main Street in Luverne. In 1962, they built Kenny's Super Valu one block South of Main Street. After retirement, they enjoyed wintering in Haines City, FL with other Luverne area retirees.
She was an active member of St. Catherine Catholic Church in Luverne; the WCCW; the Pink Ladies; the Red Hat Society; the Rock County Historical Society; and the Luverne VFW Ladies auxiliary which she had served as past president. Jeanette was an avid bridge player, enjoyed pinochle, golfing, spending time with friends and most of all, traveling to casinos.
Jeanette is survived by her three children, Larry (Deb) Goebel, Luverne; Jane (David) Bockman, Atlanta, GA; and Mark (Liz) Goebel, Fridley; seven grandchildren, Ryan, Claire, Brandon, Jenny, Shane, Seth and Devon; five great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kenny, in 1983; son, John, in 1971; and a brother, Charles Kahoun.
Visitation will be Thursday from 5-7 pm at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Luverne; and also one hour prior to the service on Friday. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 am Friday at St. Catherine Catholic Church, in Luverne, officiated by Fr. Thomas Jennings. Burial will be in the St. Catherine Cemetery.
